Hot off the heels of my first trip to the 2018 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando and I am filled with so much inspiration. No doubt there are thousands of products and you can basically find something for every taste, but there were some definite trends to be noted. One of the most prevalent and noticeable was the matte finish.
From vessel sinks to faucets and freestanding tubs to tile, finishes were decidedly leaning toward a softer feel and warmer touch.
White fixtures are perennial favorites in kitchens & baths, it isn’t the only color that’s lost its sheen. Designers are using matte black (amongst other colors) on faucets en masse. The new Jason Wu collection for Brizo takes simple, modern shapes many of us already love as a go-to choice and made it even edgier in a softened black. They are truly striking!
Then there is the wildest version of the matte trend, not for the timid homeowner. In a move away from the all white kitchen, companies are introducing products in every color, from pale blues, greens & grays to the very bold as in the case of these faucets from Grohe.
While the metal parts are a shiny chrome, the flexible hose is in a matte silicone finish. One of the coolest aspects of this faucet is that the hose is replaceable. Get tired of orange? Switch it in a flash to blue or gray…or a very pretty white.
And the trend extends to walls & flooring too. For a while now, we’ve seen a swell of popularity in cement & encaustic tiles. I feel that we’ve welcomed these patterned tiles into our homes because they too have a certain tactile quality that is warm and homey.
